About the watch
Gérald Genta is universally recognized as one of the greatest masters of modern watchmaking. A visionary designer, he is the creative genius behind masterpieces such as the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, the Patek Philippe Nautilus, the IWC Ingenieur and numerous models for Universal Genève, Omega and Cartier. After revolutionizing design for the great maisons, in 1969 he founded his own independent brand: Maison Gérald Genta.
With his maison, Genta gave full expression to his distinctive style, experimenting with innovative technical solutions and original complications. Among his most recognizable stylistic signatures are retrograde indications, jumping hours, off-center dials and an aesthetic approach inspired by Art Deco and modern architecture. Each watch was conceived as a mechanical sculpture, capable of combining art, technique and originality.
In the 1990s, his designs reached a creative peak, with complex and daring creations, often produced in limited editions and intended for a clientele of connoisseurs. After the acquisition of the brand by Bulgari in 2000, the Genta collections continued for a few years under new management, but the watches made during the independent era remain today among the most sought-after and collected, symbols of an unrepeatable season of contemporary haute horlogerie.
Know your watch
The Gérald Genta Retro Classic G3634 is a refined example of the watchmaking ingenuity of one of the greatest masters of 20th-century design. Featuring a 36 mm stainless steel case, this model combines elegant proportions with a sophisticated technical complication: the retrograde minutes on a semi-circular scale and the jumping hours, displayed via a digital aperture at 6 o'clock. The understated and highly legible matte black dial stands out for its Art Deco-inspired style, while the smooth bezel and fluted caseband lend the design a distinctive and timeless touch.
At the heart of the watch beats an automatic movement (caliber GG 4503, base ETA 2892-A2), equipped with a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. The domed sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the case back is secured with six screws. The watch is completed with a black leather strap with a steel pin buckle, although some variants were offered with a metal bracelet.
