About the watch
Born from the idea of combining maritime precision with wristwatch beauty, the Portuguese has become a fertile ground for IWC innovation over the years. With the introduction of the perpetual calendar, the brand transformed that sober language into a gesture of poetic engineering: a complex complication made simple to read and use.
Kurt Klaus's contribution was crucial: an entirely mechanical mechanism, regulated by a single crown, combining technical rigor and human intuition. In the Portuguese, this invention finds its ideal setting: a large, well-proportioned dial, where complexity becomes elegance and technique becomes form.
The ref. IW502103 thus represents the synthesis of two souls: Swiss rationality and the Mediterranean calm evoked by the name Portuguese. A watch that doesn't flaunt its mastery, but rather lets it emerge slowly, like a secret shared only with those who know how to listen to time.

The IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calendar ref. IW502103 represents one of the most accomplished expressions of modern haute horlogerie: a timepiece that combines the technical strength of the Schaffhausen-based manufacturer with an aesthetic composure of rare elegance.
The generously proportioned yet perfectly balanced red gold case houses a silvered dial with extraordinary visual depth. The gold hands, applied Arabic numerals, and four subdials arranged in rigorous harmony create a silent setting, in which each indication finds its natural space.
The perpetual calendar, developed by Kurt Klaus for IWC in the 1980s, automatically calculates the date, day, month and year, taking into account the variations of the Gregorian calendar until 2100. Added to this are the moon phases, displayed with poetic precision, and the seven-day power reserve, visible on the dial.
The IWC-manufactured automatic 51613 movement, visible through the sapphire crystal case back, expresses IWC's mechanical mastery: a robust, refined caliber equipped with the renowned Pellaton winding system. This piece, complete with its original box and in excellent condition, combines the technical sophistication and aesthetic serenity that define the Portuguese in its most mature form.
