About the watch
In the 1960s, Rolex consolidated its reputation as a maker of reliable and precise professional watches, designed to accompany the most demanding sporting endeavors. After conquering the world of diving with the Submariner and the world of exploration with the Explorer, the brand turned its attention to motor racing, a field where speed, precision, and legibility were essential.
Thus was born the Cosmograph, a chronograph designed for drivers and motorsport enthusiasts. In 1963, the Daytona name was introduced in homage to the famous Florida racetrack, a symbol of endurance racing and Rolex's connection to the world of motorsport. From that moment, the Cosmograph Daytona collection became the benchmark for sports chronographs, with a powerful and functional design that would define the brand's style for decades.
During the 1970s, the Daytona reached its most mature form with the references 6263 and 6265. These models, equipped with screw-lock chronograph pushers and latest-generation Valjoux movements, represented the meeting of Rolex's artisanal tradition and the growing need for mechanical precision in the world of sport. The 6265, in particular, with its metallic bezel and understated character, became one of the purest expressions of the Maison's technical and aesthetic identity.

The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona ref. 6265 represents one of the most iconic configurations of the Rolex manually wound chronograph, produced between the late 1960s and early 1980s. Characterized by its metal bezel engraved with a tachymeter scale and screw-lock chronograph pushers, it embodies the most mature evolution of the 6263–6265 family: a perfect balance between sporty spirit and manufacturing rigor.
The 37 mm stainless steel case features compact proportions, a polished profile, and a full middle, while maintaining the robustness typical of pre-Zenith Daytonas. Inside, it houses the Valjoux 727 manual-winding movement, a reliable and precise caliber that ensures the smooth operation of the chronograph, with central seconds and auxiliary minute and hour counters.
The dial belongs to the variant known as “Small Red,” in which the small, red Daytona inscription appears above the hour counter at 6 o’clock. This configuration, typical of the transitional series of the late 1970s, is distinguished by the harmony of its design and the understated elegance of its matte surfaces and thin typography, perfectly in line with the Rolex aesthetic language of that period.
Earlier this year, the watch underwent a complete overhaul at an official Rolex retailer in Italy. The work, conducted according to Rolex standards, ensured full mechanical efficiency and the preservation of the original characteristics of the caliber and case.
The piece comes with the original box and tag, but the warranty is no longer present. The steel Oyster bracelet, reference 78350/19 with 571 end pieces and a period-correct folding clasp, completes the watch with coherence and proportion.
In excellent overall condition, with a well-defined case, clean-cut buttons and a perfectly legible dial, this Rolex Daytona 6265 “Small Red” represents one of the most balanced interpretations of the manual-winding Daytona: a chronograph that combines the sporty charm of the Seventies with the essentiality of a timeless design, a symbol of precision, strength and moderation.
