About the watch
The GMT-Master was introduced in 1955, in collaboration with Pan Am, to offer intercontinental pilots an instrument capable of simultaneously indicating two time zones. Its distinguishing feature was the two-tone rotatable bezel and the fourth 24-hour hand. With the introduction of the GMT-Master II in 1982, Rolex made local time adjustment independent, improving functionality for frequent travelers.
Reference 116710LN marks a technical and aesthetic turning point: it was the first to introduce the Cerachrom insert, a material extremely resistant to scratches and UV rays, and the movement with Parachrom hairspring, the symbol of the new generation of Rolex calibers. Although later replaced by two-tone versions such as the BLNR (Batman) and the BLRO (Pepsi), the 116710LN remains the only variant with a monochrome black ceramic bezel, a detail that gives it a sober and versatile look.
Today, this reference is highly prized by both collectors and those seeking an elegant, robust professional watch equipped with one of the most useful complications in everyday life: the indication of the second time zone. A modern classic of Rolex production, destined to remain relevant over time.

The Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 116710LN was the first model in the steel GMT line to introduce the black Cerachrom ceramic bezel, marking a major evolution in the history of the collection in 2007. The 2011 version retains all the distinctive technical features and represents a transition phase between the more classic design of previous GMT-Masters and the modern aesthetic of the current models.
The 40 mm Oyster case in 904L steel features polished sides and a satin-brushed middle. The bidirectional rotatable bezel, with a monobloc black Cerachrom ceramic insert, is engraved with a 24-hour scale filled with platinum using the PVD process. The black dial features applied white gold shot-glass indexes and Chromalight luminescent material, as do the hands, including the distinctive green fourth GMT hand, combined with a matching “GMT-Master II” inscription.
The movement inside is the Rolex caliber 3186, automatic with anti-magnetic blue Parachrom hairspring escapement, column wheel and independent local time setting function. The power reserve is approximately 48 hours. The case back is screwed, as is the Triplock crown, which ensures water resistance to 100 meters.
The steel Oyster bracelet with polished central links is completed by the Oysterlock clasp with Easylink system, which allows the bracelet length to be extended by 5 mm for greater comfort. The serial code and internal markers indicate the production year 2011, with the flange engraved “ROLEX ROLEX” and the serial number visible at 6 o'clock.
The GMT-Master II 116710LN is now out of production and is considered a landmark model in the collection’s recent history. It is the last GMT-Master II with an all-black bezel, and the only one to combine it with a modern case with robust shoulders and updated details. For many enthusiasts, it represents the perfect balance between discretion, functionality and innovation.
