About the watch
Founded in 1865 in Le Locle, Zenith is one of the most historic Swiss manufacturers, famous for the in-house production of its own movements and for the invention of the El Primero in 1969, one of the first automatic chronographs in history and still among the most precise thanks to its high frequency. The maison combines tradition and innovation, offering watches of high technical content with a timeless aesthetic. With iconic models such as those of the Chronomaster and Defy lines, Zenith continues to represent a point of reference for lovers of quality mechanical watchmaking.

The Zenith El Primero HW ref. 02.0500.420 is a rare and fascinating manual-winding version of the famous El Primero chronograph. Introduced in the early 2000s in a limited edition, this model represents a unique choice for enthusiasts who value mechanical purity and direct interaction with the movement.
The steel case measures approximately 40 mm in diameter, with a balanced design and satin-brushed finishes that reflect the understated elegance typical of Zenith production at the time. The clean and legible silver dial features three chronograph counters arranged in the classic tricompax layout, a tachymeter scale on the flange, applied indexes and a date window positioned at 4:30. The crystal is sapphire, while the case back is screwed and solid. The leather strap, combined with a Zenith-branded folding clasp, completes the aesthetic with a classic and functional touch.
The movement that powers this watch is the El Primero caliber 420, a rare manually wound variant of the legendary El Primero automatic. It retains all the technical features of excellence, including the frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, column wheel and smooth and precise chronograph. The power reserve is approximately 48 hours. This manual version offers an even more direct connection with the watch, making it a refined choice for those who appreciate mechanical tradition in its purest form.
The HW (Hand Wound) model occupies a special place in Zenith’s recent history, being one of the few references with a non-automatic El Primero movement. Its limited production and limited distribution on the market increase its collector’s appeal, making it a sought-after watch among connoisseurs.
